Tips for Curating Images For Your Brand

I truly believe that a brand goes way beyond a logo. Your brand is the impression that people are left with after they either meet you, visit your website, visit your shop or use one of your services. Your brand is an experience - whether someone has done business with you already or are seeking your services, you want them to walk away feeling like they made a connection.

The best way to make this connection is by having a brand that translates through all platforms - from your website, to your social media and marketing efforts and even when you shake someone's hand. Imagery is one of the best ways that you can tell your story and let people know a bit about your brand, what you do and what you stand for.

Francesca of Coco Prop Shop and I recently co-hosted Co/Create and we went over the basics of how to curate imagery for your brand.  We had an amazing day sharing Instagram Marketing tips as well as a hands-on portion where our guests learned how to style and shoot their own branded images (read Francesca's recap here).  We'll be hosting another in July so stay tuned for details!

Here are some tips we shared with our Co/Create workshop guests that you'll find useful:

  1. Props: Have some small props that represent your brand to use in your photos.

  2. Less Is More: You'll find when your styling and shooting it's really and exercise of editing. You'll want to have white space and room between the items you are shooting.

  3. Lighting: Whether you are shooting with a fancy DSLR or your cell phone natural light works best. Shoot in the shade where natural light comes in.

  4. Backgrounds: When shooting flat-lays you can get creative with the background textures. My go-to's are dark wood, marble and solid white surfaces. I have a marble tile but if you want to save space you can order contact paper, they come in a bunch of textures and are very affordable.

  5. Show NOT tell: Tell a story and let your content flow naturally by giving it lose guidelines with relevant happenings, holidays and events.

  6. Quality over quantity: Always have a purpose for posting on social media. Use the caption as an opportunity to tell a story and allow the visitor to learn or be inspired by you.
